Home Care Babies Memorials

Welcome to my

Dream-Come-True!

Several years ago, I decided to try my hand at breeding a pair of Peach Face lovebirds. From the time that first tiny egg hatched and I saw that naked little baby wiggling around in the nest box, I was hooked. And when I finally got to hold him in the palm of my hand when he was ten days old, I remember just staring at him in total awe. How beautiful and precious!

While waiting in line one day at the pet store, I noticed a tiny green bird in a container on the counter and I went to take a closer look. It was the cutest little bird I'd ever laid eyes on and he just went wild, trying to climb up the side of that container to get to me. It was love at first sight! I learned that he was a Pacific Parrotlet. I knew that I just had to have one, but this little guy was already spoken for.

A couple of years went by before I saw another at a bird mart in the Fall of 2001. A breeder there had a clutch of baby Pacifics and there was just no way I was going to leave without one! One little guy left the huddle of babies and wandered over to check me out. I knew he was the one. I joined a Yahoo group and soaked in all the information I could about parrotlets, and six months later went to another bird mart to find a mate for him. Chopper and Chloe (now retired) produced many beautiful babies and brought so much joy into my life. I've since learned that buying birds for breeding at a bird mart is not the way to go. All of the birds I breed now come from people that I know to be excellent and responsible breeders - and my goal has been to be that type of breeder myself. I think I've met that goal.

I was living in a one-bedroom apartment in Texas and I dreamed of retiring to a place where I would be able to have a room just for the parrotlets - a place where I could have as many pairs as I wanted, and in the Fall of 2005, my dream came true with the help of many dear friends. So here I am in beautiful Palm Coast, Florida. What could be better? I have the pairs I've always wanted, am near my grandchildren and the ocean. It's my dream-come-true!
